Loving Lavender Essential Oil!

80f1e50f09661cc0a45c3eb2754f9f32Lavender oil is one of the most beneficial essential oils in the world and has been referenced for well over 2000 years!! It’s probably the most popular essential oil in the US and I know for myself personally, this is one oil I have been using for years and cannot live without!!  Lavender oil is sort of a…jack of all trades oil!

There are so many uses for Lavender oil and it is a great “go to” oil in general, but one of the main things to keep in mind is that it is relaxing and calming.  It can calm and sooth your body systems, including the skin.  In fact, Lavender is a must for me to have in my household all the time.

We have 6 dogs in our household. Yes…that is a lot of dogs!! One of our pups, Zeus, gets very furry and if he goes too long between haircuts, he will get hot and end up giving himself an itchy hot spot on his back that he won’t leave alone! 5462

I like to mix a little lavender oil into coconut oil and apply it to irritated areas like this to help give him some relief and it helps heal his skin.

Also, if you haven’t researched the benefits of coconut oil, I recommend you do.  So many wonderful health benefits in that oil all on its own!  It is a great carrier oil to use with your essential oils, when you are using them topically.

80f1e50f09661cc0a45c3eb2754f9f32I also have a sweet little chihuahua named Venus (Vivi) and she has always had a nervous/anxious condition. My sweet little girl frightens very easily and is sensitive to electronics and energy. One day, I had the thought go through my head that lavender might help her calm her nerves too.  After all, it works for me! When she gets frightened, she gets very insistent about being held and needs cuddles. Keep in mind, to her, it doesn’t matter how busy you are either! After having Vivi raking at my legs with her claws and shaking uncontrollably one day, I pulled out my essential oil box and grabbed my lavender.  I took one drop, with a little coconut oil and rubbed it on the pads of her feet.  I was amazed how easily she calmed down when I added a little lavender to her system!

Do you ever feel like Vivi or do you have stress in your life?  During times when I need a little extra calm, I will just take a couple of drops of lavender oil and rub it on my upper neck and temples.  I also love to use lavender in my diffuser, or sometimes, will even open the bottle and take a few deep slow breaths. I can noticeably feel my body and mind mellow out.  It’s a wonderful way to help wind down at the end of a busy day.  I love that it has also helped me get better sleep.

I also recently found it interesting to learn that there is a difference between Spike Lavender and Lavender (sometimes referred to as True Lavender) as far as the wellness benefits they provide.  I won’t go too much into the details, but essentially, it all comes down to the different components found in the two different types of lavender.  Both have the relaxing and calming effect, but Lavender has a greater amount of “calming” components, making it the perfect night and relaxing oil for me to use.  Spike Lavender has significantly more camphor in it. I look forward to acquiring some Spike Lavender in the future to see how it might benefit my breathing.

There is so much more we could discuss about this amazing oil, but I’d like to end this blog post by sharing a DIY recipe for Dr. Axe’s Healing Bath.  Dr. Axe reports on the following website, ‘This homemade healing bath salts recipe will help increase relaxation, relieve muscle pain, decrease stress and support body detoxification.” Here is a link to this recipe, if you would like to give it a try yourself!  http://draxe.com/homemade-healing-bath-salts/. The condensed version that he shared in a class I recently took gives you a quick recipe for a single bath too. That one includes taking about 20 drops of lavender oil, one cup of Epsom salts in a hot bath, and just doing a 20 minute soak. Let’s see how relaxed you feel after trying this!

Thanks for stopping by to read about my lavender oil experiences! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Thanks to my essential oil journey, this year I am trying some new things.  I think I am in love with my diffuser!  This little baby sits on my office desk and is amazing!
